PICA Selects Holst for New Headquarters

Our longtime friends, PICA (The Portland Institute for Contemporary Art), will have a new permanent home. A PICA patron purchased a 16,000-square-foot compound at 15 NE Hancock St. and offered it to the nonprofit organization rent-free for 10 years.

Our team at Holst is honored to have been chosen to design the renovation of the space. The 4,800 SF office and studio space includes a public art gallery and resource library to support collaboration between PICA and other arts group, as well as provide a place for artists to find inspiration, work, and create. Additionally, a 4,000 SF “black box” space will be provided for performances, and a 10,000 SF “white box” will accommodate large visual exhibitions. The flexible “white box” exhibition space will also act as the new home for The Works, an event venue and headquarters for the Time-Based Art Festival (TBA), an annual event that engages an international arts community.
