LifeWorks NW | Beech Street Apartments is a mixed-use development in Northeast Portland that provides permanent family housing and supportive services for women recovering from addiction. A collaboration between Home Forward, Portland’s public-housing authority, and LifeWorks NW, a mental health and addiction nonprofit, the two-wing project provides space for both short-term treatment and long-term recovery.

Shared experiences

Direct access to the complex’s courtyard and playground maximizes fresh air, sunlight, and social contact.

Consistent surroundings

The biggest barrier to leaving treatment is lacking permanent housing. A stable environment across the courtyard provides consistency.

Comprising the east wing of the project, LifeWorks NW’s Project Network program provides 16 temporary units for 36 women to live during substance abuse treatment, along with their young children. It includes a child development center, library, courtyard, administration, and a variety of gathering spaces for treatment. Across a communal courtyard, the project’s west wing provides 32 permanent family apartments reserved for graduates of substance abuse treatment programs, operated by Home Forward.
