Mississippi & Fremont

Mississippi & Fremont is a proposed mixed-use development that will provide a punctuation to the southern end of the commercial corridor on  Mississippi Street to help stitch together the disjointed neighborhood fabric.

Taking cues from the unique characteristics of the site and neighborhood, the massing along each façade is broken down into distinct modules that are identified with varying materials and setbacks to provide compatibility with some of the smaller scale buildings in the district while forming a cohesive and balanced composition which relates to the larger buildings that exist now and those that are being planned. Brick, metal panel, and wood siding compliment the unique historical and industrial aspects of the surrounding Albina neighborhood.

Enhancing the thriving community, the ground floor retail area opens to a plaza area set back from Mississippi and Fremont to allow café seating or retail displays to spill out to the public realm to create a more inviting experience for pedestrians with potential stopping places. The bench seating near the lobby entry along the plaza, and front stoops along the lower portion of the Mississippi frontage provide spaces where neighbors can rest and converse.
