Highlights of 2022, Welcoming 2023
Holst Celebrated 30 Years
In 2022, we celebrated our 30th Anniversary. It also marked 6+ years of ownership for Kim, Dave, Kevin, and Renée. Within those years, Holst became Oregon’s largest women-owned architecture firm (2017), JUST certified through the International Living Future Institute (2019), AIA PNW’s Firm of the Year (2020), and is currently going through the final stages of B Corp certification. We couldn’t be more proud of the work we’re doing, the people we’re doing it with, and where we’re headed. 2022 culminated with a wonderful gathering of clients, partners, and friends, as well as the unveiling of a film that shares our aspirations.

Holst Expands to Minneapolis, Minnesota
As we continue to grow as a firm, we have opened an office in Minnesota! This expansion allows us to do more work outside of Oregon. We currently have two employees heading up the Minneapolis office and will be adding more as we further our connections in the area.

Growing Our Commitment to Equity & Inclusion
This year, as a part of our investment in inclusive design practices, we welcomed Hannah Silver as Inclusive Design Facilitator, a new role at Holst. She is a designer, educator, and community connector whose unique blend of experience helps ensure that Holst’s buildings and design processes align with our goals for greater inclusivity in the built environment. Hannah will be a resource for project teams as they develop equitable community engagement strategies and adopt inclusivity best practices into their building designs.
We are excited to share her wealth of knowledge with our clients and community. Reach out if you’re interested in setting up a learning session for your team!

Holst Was Awarded Energy Trust of Oregon Research Grant
Holst was honored to receive a research grant from the Energy Trust of Oregon (ETO) to study the operational and embodied carbon in multifamily housing. Our study aims to provide designers and the larger development teams of multifamily housing with embodied and operational carbon assessments of local multi-family projects, giving a deeper understanding of the intersection between the two as it relates to the design decisions teams make.

New Principals
We are thrilled to announce that we have named four new Principals to join the leadership team at Holst. Brittany Shreiner, Lee Jorgensen, Mark Schmidt, and Steve Lanning have been an essential part of Holst’s evolution. Each brings a unique skillset, balancing the big picture direction of the firm with the many fine details integral to fulfilling our mission every day.
