Holst Celebrates Four Promotions

Holst is thrilled to announce the promotions of four individuals who have been instrumental to Holst’s success. Nominated by their fellow colleagues, Shannon Horton, Hannah Rusnac, Josiah Henley, and Maggie Harris each contribute greatly to our work and our office culture. We’re so thankful to have them at Holst and are excited to celebrate their talent and dedication to our work.

Shannon Horton | Associate

Shannon joined Holst in 2019, where she’s worked on a variety of community, education, housing, and hospitality projects. She has been an exemplary Project Manager on the East County Library project, a new 95,000-square-foot library in Gresham, Oregon.

This year she was honored with the DJC Oregon Building Diversity Award for her community engagement efforts on the project. She has been instrumental in creating a positive culture in Holst’s office, planning events with our Culture Club to foster a supportive environment.

Through her strong work ethic, Shannon looks ahead, thinks beyond herself, provides important design input, and finds ways to solve problems every day.

Hannah Rusnac | Associate

Hannah is a multidisciplinary designer passionate about creating sustainable and supportive spaces. Since joining Holst in 2021, she has worked on community, office, and housing projects, in addition to leading Holst’s Energy Trust of Oregon research study on operational and embodied carbon in multifamily housing.

She is helping lead Holst’s pro-bono efforts to design and renovate the new offices for Street Roots, a local social justice newspaper. The building renovation in Portland’s Old Town neighborhood will give Street Roots flexibility as the organization continues to grow. Hannah is also a key member of the East County Library team.

Hannah has taken on leadership aspects that are beyond her years of experience. She does whatever is needed to help her projects be better, and she does it with collaboration and kindness.

Josiah Henley | Senior Associate

Since joining Holst in 2014, Josiah has been instrumental in the success of many of our multifamily housing projects. Serving as the designer of The Aurora, a recently completed affordable housing project in east Portland, he addressed many of the common problems affordable housing developments face to create high-quality, supportive housing with innovative and thoughtful solutions.

Josiah is currently working on Julia West House, a 12-story cross-laminated timber (CLT) Permanent Supportive Housing building in Portland’s west end. A skilled designer, his work flows from a deep interest in housing’s impact on occupant health and well-being health, environmental sustainability, and unique forms of cultural expression in architecture.

Josiah has developed into a major voice for design innovation and excellence at Holst, both on his projects and across the office. He leads with a quiet and thoughtful confidence that is rare.

Maggie Harris | Senior Associate

Maggie joined Holst in 2022 and has made a huge impact within her short time at the firm. Bringing with her more than ten years of project management and design experience on a diverse portfolio of projects, she has already worked on a variety of Holst projects, including 73Foster, an affordable and Permanent Supportive Housing development in southeast Portland and Julia West House, a mass timber tower with 90 units of Permanent Supportive Housing.

She is a leader for our in-house Post Occupancy Evaluation task force, which researches how our finished housing projects serve current residents. Maggie was recently appointed to the Oregon Housing Stability Council, which strives to provide leadership in and review and set policy for the development and financing of affordable housing in the State of Oregon.

I regularly see Maggie helping her colleagues with guidance on how to approach their work. People seek her advice, which is a powerful sign of her talent and leadership.

How do I become an architect? What is the difference between Architecture and Engineering? Can I job shadow an architect for a day? How do architects turn designs into buildings? Can I tour your office with my child? What roles can I perform in architecture? How do I know if architecture is the field for me? Would an architect speak to my class about architecture? What degrees do I need to be an architect?

Holst invites curious minds to ask questions about architecture.
