Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Emma joined Holst after graduating from the University of Oregon’s Portland Campus with a Master’s in Architecture. While earning her undergraduate degree, she discovered her passion for human-centered architecture and urban design while studying abroad in Copenhagen, which ultimately inspired her to pursue graduate studies in Portland. Here, she focused on studying unique and innovative housing solutions, which she is excited to explore further through her work at Holst.

Emma is passionate about sustainability and climate resilience and takes a holistic approach to design to consider the full life cycle of projects. She is currently working on the renovations of Home Forward’s Holgate House and Ruth Haefner Plaza—revitalizing two aging affordable housing buildings to support current and future residents.

Outside of work, Emma loves to explore all of Oregon’s outdoors, whether it’s running, biking, backpacking, or just enjoying one of the city’s many parks.

How do I become an architect? What is the difference between Architecture and Engineering? Can I job shadow an architect for a day? How do architects turn designs into buildings? Can I tour your office with my child? What roles can I perform in architecture? How do I know if architecture is the field for me? Would an architect speak to my class about architecture? What degrees do I need to be an architect?

Holst invites curious minds to ask questions about architecture.
