Rachel joined Holst with a background in residential housing and sustainability consulting. As a Designer, Rachel works closely with clients to turn their vision into reality. With a passion for social and environmental sustainability, she believes that through art and design, storytelling can become a catalyst for hope and have a positive social impact when shaping the built environment.

Recently, Rachel completed the renovation of Portland City Hall and the Council Chambers as part of the voter-back charter reform. The new design respects the historic architecture while creating a more accessible and welcoming space that supports the administration’s evolving needs. She has since shifted her focus to Broadway Corridor Parcel 4A, which will be the first project to go vertical in the planned Broadway Corridor neighborhood. The 14-story, 230-unit affordable housing development will feature resident and community amenities that will contribute to the envisioned unique, diverse, vibrant, sustainable, and mixed-use district.

Outside of the office, Rachel can be found biking/backpacking around Oregon, volunteering with Architects in Schools, or in her ceramic studio working on her latest project.

How do I become an architect? What is the difference between Architecture and Engineering? Can I job shadow an architect for a day? How do architects turn designs into buildings? Can I tour your office with my child? What roles can I perform in architecture? How do I know if architecture is the field for me? Would an architect speak to my class about architecture? What degrees do I need to be an architect?

Holst invites curious minds to ask questions about architecture.
