Prior to joining Holst, Sam started his career as an AmeriCorps Construction Leader with Habitat for Humanity in Austin, Texas, before pivoting to architecture. Through his experiences, he developed a strong recognition of housing as a human right, which led him to a passion for ensuring well-designed homes are available and accessible to all. With over a decade of experience in multi-family housing, urban planning, and sustainable building, Sam creates high-quality designs. Through his holistic approach to the design process, he ensures that designs achieve the client’s goals while positively impacting the communities in which we work.

Most recently, Sam has been working on TriMet & BRIDGE Housing’s hollywoodHUB, a 12-story, 224-unit transit-oriented development in Portland’s Hollywood District. The project will be a mixed-use, mixed-income building that embraces the site, its history, and the Hollywood District as a hub for transit, equity, and community.

How do I become an architect? What is the difference between Architecture and Engineering? Can I job shadow an architect for a day? How do architects turn designs into buildings? Can I tour your office with my child? What roles can I perform in architecture? How do I know if architecture is the field for me? Would an architect speak to my class about architecture? What degrees do I need to be an architect?

Holst invites curious minds to ask questions about architecture.
