Land Recognition
We have a responsibility to not only acknowledge but also elevate Native communities and their needs. This project sits in the area currently known as Portland, which encompasses the traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla, and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River.
Educating ourselves is an important action. We encourage you to explore the stories of these communities through Native-led resources like David G. Lewis, PhD’s The Quartux Journal and Leading with Tradition.
Revitalizing Holst’s Old Office
The Meister Tenant Improvement will transform the old warehouse that previously housed Holst’s office into a creative home for the company. The new layout turns the central lounge into a hub, and as you enter deeper into the building, the space transitions from public to private. The design is set up to provide flexibility, allowing private spaces to flow together or serve as fully independent meeting spaces to meet a variety of Meister’s clients’ needs.
Gathering Hub
A relocated entry door now opens off the patio and into the double-height kitchen and lounge space. Collaborating with a variety of other agencies, the space is intended to serve as a gathering place and a hub for Meister’s shared community.
A Modern Office Oasis
The deepest space in the building has been designed as a “living room” set up as an editing suite. The modern but warm, cozy room will make clients feel at home.
Natural Materials
To celebrate the existing wood structure, additional wood paneling adds warmth throughout the office. Skylights bring ample natural light into the main lounge as well as the second-floor office area.
